Below are some of the fabulous edible garden properties  in the Far north area that participated in the third Northland Edible Garden Trail in February 2024.

50 year old family garden which has NZs largest collection of tropical and exotic plants covering 10 acres. 


It contains many interesting edible fruit trees including: Banana (20 varieties): Cherimoya (10 varieties): Sopote (4 varieties),,JackFruit (3 varieties), Lucuma (3 varieties), Coffee (6 varieties): Inga (5 varieties),Mango, Longan, Lychee,Pineapple, Jaboticaba, Davidson plum, Rose Apple, Black Apple, Bolivian Mountain Coconut, unusual Passion Fruits. and more.

Property Description: 

Tucked away in a fertile valley Krishna sanctuary is a testimony of the abundance of food mother nature can produce.


Krishna sanctuary is a 6 acre organically managed property since 2020, with at least 2 acres in a wide variety of fruits, nuts, veges, and flowers for year round supply, more and more as time progresses. The remaining area is pasture for our two friendly old house cows, some native bush and a permanent stream running down from the mountain. The property is off grid, utilizing solar and hydro electric from the stream. Water for the house and garden is from the stream. Our composting toilet system is unique, cheap and very useful. Cooking and heating is with a locally built wood stove. 


My wife Jaya, and I love to share techniques of simple living and high thinking with interested people, with the hope that humanity can live more in harmony with nature and God, and be happy.

Description: Delightful 5 acre Samoan inspired botanical gardens which include plantings of fruit trees, sugar cane, taro and lots of bananas. It has been lovingly established and maintained by Murray and Serafina Lay for the last 21 years.
