This is a list of special one off events taking place in the 2026 Northland Edible Garden Trail.

Levi feeds 30 families from OMG (Organic Market Garden), a 500 sqm garden in downtown Auckland that has been operating since 2018, and also runs an epic community garden at Manurewa to provide food for school lunches at NZ's largest low decile High School.

After this event people will be able to visit Janine's Garden across the road at 48 de Thierry Street, Rawene.
Janine's Garden
Sunday 1 February, 2pm - 4pm $3 per adult, kids free
48 de Thierry Street, Rawene (please note that this takes place after the Grow Local workshop and is across the road)
Janine has been growing her family's food organically in the Hokianga for over 50 years.
She grows a wide variety of vegetables, fruit and nuts, including almonds, pomegranates and apricots. She preserves and gives away excess. The olive grove produces 40 to 45 litres of oil a year and there is a small subtropical food forest.
The 2 toilets go through a wormorator. There are a few chickens for eggs and pest control. There is a worm farm, hungry bin and other ways of creating soil nutrients such as composting chook house litter, barrels of horse manure liquid, biochar and ramial woodchip.

Exquisitely landscaped property with many rare edibles.
Rudolf has spent 15 years transforming a 2 acre paddock into a thriving, beautiful garden with vegetables and fruit trees including many tropical plants. There are 800 different ornamental and useful plants . The garden features secluded secret areas and quirky sculptures. It is an amazing garden.
This property is rarely open for public viewing and this is the only time it has been in the Northland Edible Garden Trail. Rudolf is a very knowledgeable gardener who is happy to share his knowledge. This one-off property is presently for sale.
Syntropic Gardening - with Klaus Lotz

Integration of Māori gardening practices and Hua Parakore principles such as whakapapa, wairua, mauri, māramatanga, mana, and Te Ao Tūroa. To strengthen communities in Te Tai Tokerau through Mahinga kai, māra kai education, fostering self-reliance, sustainability, and cultural revitalisation while promoting food sovereignty.
Taimahi Herbarium
Wednesday 25 February, 9:30am to 11:30am. $3 per adult
67 Puriri Grange Lane, Maunu, Whangārei
Taimahi Trust is changing lives for people with learning and intellectual disabilities by growing herbs and flowers with sustainable circular composting in an organic glasshouse. The produce is then sold at the Taimahi Fresh + shop in Bank Street, Whangārei. It is impressive what Amber, the Gardening Supervisor, is doing. Worth a visit.
