Below are the fabulous edible garden properties in the Kaikohe and North Hokianga areas that are participating in the fifth Northland Edible Garden Trail in February 2026
Note that this list is preliminary and may be updated prior to the trail date.
Kaikohe and North Hokianga Gardens are open Sunday 22nd February, normally 9am - 4pm but please check each gardens opening days and times carefully.
These gardens are placed in the order in which you would visit them if you are travelling East on State Highway 12.
North Hokianga
Garden Name: Angela Rush New 2026
Address: Next to the Herald Building in Kohukohu

Kaikohe
Garden Name: Oasis Retreat
Address: 3571 Horeke Road (near the Tāheke end of the road)
Property Description: 10 acres of magical, wild, edible landscape.
Lovingly established over 35 years on volcanic rock the gardens, orchards and food forests contain many varieties of edible plants and trees such as walnut, almond, blackboy peach, apricot, mulberry, white tropical guava, banana, tropical apricot, Davidson plum and Japanese wineberry. Some of these are heritage Hokianga varieties. There are also ponds, pyramids, a delightful off grid house and an outdoor theatre where local musicians will be playing peaceful live music.

Garden Name: Marty O'Halloran New 2026
Address: 3449 SH12, Tāheke
Property Description: Totally wild garden where weeds and a huge diversity of edible plants compete.
Marty runs Seaweed Solutions, a garden fertiliser company. He uses seaweed on his garden to create flourishing plants. There are some gems here, even if it's not as manicured as some gardens. Of particular interest is the vanilla passionfruit with its lovely red flowers hanging down over most of the deck, which is well used for indoor/outdoor living.

Garden Name: Evergreen Olives New 2026
Address: 4587A State Highway 12, Tāheke Road, Kaikohe
Property Description: A boutique organic olive grove estate that produces quality olive oil and avocado oil.
Phil has 1,000 25 year old J5 olive trees which are grown organically and the olives are cold pressed into extra virgin olive oil. Sheep graze under the olive trees to keep weeds down and to fertilise the soil. Tree cuttings are mulched and returned to the soil.
Phil also has 2,000 avocado trees from which he produces extra virgin cold pressed avocado oil.
There is a picnic area beneath kahikatea trees next to a small stream.

Garden Name: Trail's End New 2026
Address: 4678 State Highway 12, Tāheke Road, Kaikohe
Property Description: Lovely old garden with productive trees surrounding a 90 year old house.
The garden features 5 large, old walnut trees, several different varieties of large, old avocado trees, cherimoya, bananas, figs, peaches and citrus.
The vegetable garden is not much used by Roddy, the new owner of the property, but the large, old fruit trees are worth a visit.

Garden Name: Hillcrest Kindergarten New 2026
Address: Corner Park and Hillcrest Road, Kaikohe
Property Description: A children's garden where the children plant, tend and harvest what's grown. The produce is used to cook meals at the kindergarten.
Hillcrest Kindergarten has raised garden beds, tyre gardens, a worm farm, an orchard and quite a few herbs. When the tamariki found that their cabbages were badly eaten they spent half an hour searching for snails and caught 24. The vegetables get planted where the tamariki wish to plant them, the Kindergarten humorously call this "companion planting".
